New location and dates for IAU Symp. 365 "Dynamics of Solar and Stellar Convection Zones and Atmospheres"

Annonce transmise par Brigitte Schmieder (KUL Leuven & LESIA)

The current political situation and the resultant transport and visa limitations dictate moving our meeting, IAU
Symposium 365, to another country. It will be held on 21–25 August 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia. As the venue of the
meeting, the DoubleTree by Hilton Yerevan City Centre Hotel is tentatively chosen. The new local organizing
committee is based on the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, which has extensive experience in conference
management.

The symposium will bring together solar and stellar physicists investigating the dynamics of convection zones
and lower atmospheres. It will be dedicated to observational and theoretical aspects of the hydrodynamics and
magnetohydrodynamics, both global and local, of the solar and stellar convection zones and lower atmospheres with
the inclusion of numerical simulations as a particular branch of theoretical research.

As planned originally, the symposium will be dedicated to the following basic topics:
1. Convection (solar – on different scales – and stellar)
2. Differential rotation and meridional circulation (both solar and stellar)
3. Global dynamo (in the Sun and stars; solar-cycle observed patterns and predictions)
4. Helioseismology and asteroseismology (both global and local; probing subsurface structure and
dynamics)
5. Local processes of magnetic-flux emergence, sunspot and starspot formation (observed patterns of
sunspot evolution, small-scale motions, local dynamo)

The preliminary list of invited speakers is as follows:
1. Valentina Abramenko, Russia
2. H.M. Antia, India
3. Martin Asplund, Australia
4. Allan Sacha Brun, France
5. Jørgen Christensen-Dalsgaard, Denmark
6. Laurent Gizon, Germany
7. Gustavo Guerrero, Brazil
8. Moira Jardine, UK
9. Jie Jiang, China
10. Laurène Jouve, France
11. Maarit J. Käpylä, Germany
12. Bidya Binay Karak, India
13. Alexander Kosovichev, USA
14. Manfred Küker, Germany
15. Youhei Masada, Japan
16. Dibyendu Nandi, India
17. Nicholas Nelson, USA
18. Kristof Petrovay, Hungary
19. Alexei A. Pevtsov, USA
20. Mathias Rempel, USA

A hybrid format of the meeting is planned. However, we strongly urge the participants to make every effort to
be present in person. Not only is this important in terms of the efficiency of personal contacts but it also ensures a full
and correct transfer of the content of your talk(s) to the audience, without interruptions and distortions. If you
nevertheless participate distantly, please send beforehand each your talk as a video (mp4, avi etc.) file to the LOC and
be ready to answer the questions upon the end of its playback.

Armenia has a visa regime favourable for visitors from a great many countries. In many cases, visas are either
completely unneeded or can be obtained via a very simple procedure.
For detailed information on the meeting, please visit the conference website: http://iaus365.sinp.msu.ru. The

To submit your abstract(s), please download our template.tex file, fill it in to prepare the file(s) of your
abstract(s) and rename it (them) so as to explicitly indicate the last name and the first initial of the presenting author
and, if needed, the ordinal number of the abstract, e.g., “Nikolaev_E.tex” or “Johnson_A_1.tex”. To check the
appearence of the result, generate .dvi files using the IAUS365 style file, which you can download as iaus365.sty.
Then e-mail both (!) the .tex and the .pdf file of each abstract to the SOC address given below. While submitting your
abstracts, please indicate the numbers of the relevant thematic sections of the symposium (see above the list of basic
topics) in the subject field of your e-mail.

IAU has (limited) funds to support qualified scientists to whom only limited means of support are available.
To apply for an IAU travel grant, please download the grant application form, fill it in either using a computer or
(very legibly!) handwriting, sign and e-mail it in a scanned form to the SOC address given below.
