Andrey Sladkov will defend his PhD thesis on friday 27 september 2019 at 10 am.
The defense will be in tower 15-16, room 306 (Laboratoire Jacques Louis Lions)
on the campus "Jussieu" of Sorbonne University.
Short summary :
In 1970s with first laboratory experiments on laser fusion, the laboratory astrophysics started its way, reproducing conditions relevant to astrophysical phenomena. The work of this thesis consists in a numerical study of collisionless magnetic reconnection. The hybrid code is applied to two problems: (1) Harris sheet, and (2) plasma bubbles colliding. The consequences of magnetic reconnection as particles acceleration, leading to intensive radiation bursts are observable evidence of the process. The first problem addresses the role of the non-diagonal electron pressure tensor components, as it can decrease the reconnection rate twice, compared to the isothermal case. The second problem is dedicated to a study of driven reconnection in high power lasers experiments. Increasing the plasma beta parameter makes the process impulsive. This thesis provides a way to simulate the reconnection process in laser-plasma experiments in a more realistic way, allowing qualitative comparisons.
